To have courage for whatever comes in life – everything lies in that.
– SAINT TERESA OF AVILA
A title and a quote
saved in draft
waiting for me
to be brave
to come to this page again,
to be present, and write.
Every day, courage is tested.
What ever comes, Teresa,
am I really ready for it?
Everything lies
in wait for my response.
The wilderness is dark,
lonely, scary, and fierce.
The path is grown over with weeds.
The branches hang low blinding me
from the way through.
Then there comes a light
rising up from the East
creating a rainbow in the clouds
showing me
I am not alone.
The sparkle in your eye,
the gentle song in your voice
call to me
to be
brave
and true
to shine the light
in me
that comes only from
my God.
That image and quote are so convicting, aren’t they?! WE are His stand-ins until he comes again. THAT is powerful. We need to be brave in order to be his hands, feet, and eyes!
What a lovely, inspirational poem. In the face of fear, courage responds.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I love the line that everything lies in wait for your response. I had such a sense of stillness and anticipation when I read that line.
WOW! That’s all I have to say… WOW
I love this quote! And your poem! So special!
Love your poem . . . “Every day courage is tested.”‘ And this question, “Am I really ready for it?”
Oh I read this poem three times! I love it!!!! Yes, “Everyday courage is tested.” Thank you!!!!
I have such a connection to your first stanza, “A title and a quote
saved in draft
waiting for me
to be brave
to come to this page again,
to be present, and write.”
Being present is so needed to take brave steps to be His hands and feet. Your poem is potent and thought provoking. The St. Teresa of Avila quotes bookend it beautifully. Along with sharing a name, I aspire towards more of St. Teresa’s qualities as well. Thank you for sharing.
I notice the name share after I selected the quote. Using your word Brave and Teresa’s quote was a happy coincidence. Thanks for your comment.
[…] a poem movie. I used a quote from St. Teresa of Avila. You may have seen the original poem in my Spiritual Thursday post. I used nature images that I had taken. (The hawk was borrowed from my friend Chere Coen.) I […]
