School Journal
Wide-ruled,
100 lined pages,
composition book
covered in pictures I love
laminated with packaging tape
for Mrs. Simon only.
Car Journal
Tucked into a pocket near my right knee,
ready to capture a wayward thought
before it flies out the window.
Flower-printed cover
wrapped with a rubber strap,
a gift from a friend.
Home Journal
fits nicely in my purse,
no lines, orange paper cover,
stocking stuffer from Santa,
open for words and wonderings,
contains recycled paper
printed down home.
New Journal
ordered on Etsy from Scribble and Jot,
artfully handmade, stands on its own,
stitched together with thread
holding pages from a discarded book about plants,
too new to write in.
I just like the smell.
A girl after my own heart. The new journal that stands up is very interesting. I love the colors and the one that you made also. xo
Love how you have many different types of journals, especially the one in the car. I need to decorate my journals again, too. I find that I’m jotting more ideas down than ever in retirement with sticky notes attached, too. Here’s to the journal/writers notebook!
Journals everywhere to capture thoughts. Fabulous evidence of your writer’s life.
I love the variety of journals. The problem I would have would be remembering which one has the thought I need now. 🙂
You have journals everywhere! That is the coolest thing ever!
I love all of your journal poems! I’m glad I’m not the only one with multiple journals. Your poems fit the personality of each one!
I love the idea of a car journal! I might have to find one (or re-purpose one).
Really fun to see. I use a composition book for school too! I love the beauty of that last one, Margaret. What a wonderful idea.
I enjoyed reading your journal thoughts today. I especially liked the car journal:
Tucked into a pocket near my right knee,
ready to capture a wayward thought
before it flies out the window.
Your words really captured the purpose!
A nice collection of different selves! 🙂
I loved a glimpse into all of your notebooks. I’m wondering which you use the most, and what you collect in each? I’m also wondering what will inspire you to begin to write in that new one from Etsy?
Your post made me smile. I’m in a bit of a notebook transition as I find myself more often with a phone or iPad in my hand than a journal. I’m not sure what I think about this. Will digital notes travel through time and be as useful as written notes have been? I can often “see” the page I’ve handwritten in a notebook when I start to think about an old idea, but I work hard to find the place I’ve saved those digital notes. Not to mention, I do miss the look and feel of a journal. Hmmm, what to do.

I could’ve included my laptop in my journal list because sometimes things are composed there. Today the one I reach for most is the home journal. It fits in my purse and goes with me to wordlabs and writing group meetings. I grab it when I want to jot an idea before opening the laptop, let it sit on the page for a while. Maybe nature haiku will go in the new journal or I may just look at it a while longer.
I’m glad I sparked a smile and some thoughts.
Like Greg, I have journal envy!!
I love this and I’m so happy my notebook has found a place in your collection! you made my day. I like that you say “it’s too new to write it”, i always feel that way about a new notebook. I would love a glimpse into what you fill it with someday!
